Anchor chain dead end

It is normally smart to attach the inboard end of the anchor chain to the boat in order not to lose it. The Saona has a padeye in the anchor locker for this purpose. Many people make the attachment with a shackle. The danger of this is, that it’s time consuming, if at all possible, to detach the chain and anchor in case of emergency. For instance when it gets tangled up with other anchor chains and boats are close to contact as a result. It is better to attach it with a Dyneema shackle or a piece of Dyneema line. In that case you just need a knife to detach it. Mark the chart plotter where you drop your anchor and chain and pick it up later.
