Upgrading traveler control footblock
I want better hardware on my boat than the standard, so that everything works smoother and will continue to work. This has also to do with my business relationship with harken and knowledge of the various available hardware. Some people think Harken is expensive…..Yes it is more money but look at the difference. A single flat piece of aluminium with a bearing less sheave against a 3-D milled block with Torlon roller bearings. You just cannot compare the two.

Parts used:

  • Harken 3220 Footblock
  • 4 x M6 bolts, washers and self locking nuts

Tools used

  • Drill
  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Spanner
  • Tefgel

Note how galvanic corrosion is eating away the aluminium where the original block was installed in just 18 months. The nicely round holes are new. Please use Tefgel or equivalent, when using stainless bolts in aluminium.
